Finland passport photo requirements 2026 — the 36×47 mm format
Finnish biometric photos are 36×47 mm, not 35×45. Every rule, the unique format trap, where to submit, how to take it at home.
What Poliisi actually checks
Finnish biometric passport photos follow the spec at poliisi.fi. Finland uses a slightly larger print than the rest of Europe: 36 × 47 mm, not 35 × 45. A Schengen-cropped photo is rejected on the spot. Live spec on our Finland passport photo page.
The numbers
- Print size: 36 × 47 mm. 1 mm wider, 2 mm taller than Schengen — Finland-only.
- Face height: 32–36 mm chin to crown.
- Resolution: 300 DPI.
- Background: light grey, uniform.
- Maximum age: 6 months.
- No glasses since 2016.
Where you submit it
Passi (passport) and Henkilökortti (ID card) — police passport offices. Book via poliisi.fi. Bring printed photo at 36 × 47 mm.
Take it at home
Daylight, plain wall, phone at eye level. Our AI crops to the unusual Finnish 36 × 47 mm window (NOT the Schengen 35 × 45 — that's rejected), light-grey background, 300 DPI — start your Finnish passport photo.
