Spain passport photo requirements 2026 — the 32×26 mm format explained

Spanish biometric photos are 32×26 mm with a 20-24 mm face — different from the EU standard. Every rule, where to submit, how to take it at home.

What Spanish authorities check

Spanish biometric passport and DNI photos follow the spec maintained by the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores and Policía Nacional. The single biggest trap: the print is 32 × 26 mm with a 20–24 mm face — far smaller than the EU 35 × 45 mm standard. A photo cropped to Schengen size fails on the spot. Live spec on our Spain passport photo page.

The numbers

  • Print size: 32 × 26 mm. Roughly 2/3 of the European standard.
  • Face height: 20–24 mm(chin to crown). Smaller than DE/FR/IT's 32–36 mm.
  • Resolution: 300 DPI.
  • Background: light grey, uniform.
  • Maximum age: 6 months.
  • Glasses: allowed if fully transparent and no reflection. Spain is unusual in not forbidding them outright.
  • Mouth closed, neutral expression, both eyes visible.

Where you submit it

Pasaporte: cita previa at your local Comisaría via citapreviadnie.es. DNI follows the same path. Both are issued in person — you bring printed photos.

Take it at home

Daylight, plain light-grey wall, phone at eye level. Our AI measures face height in mm and crops to the unusual Spanish 32 × 26 mm window with a 20–24 mm face — not the Schengen 35 × 45 — and ships at 300 DPI. Print on glossy 300 gsm paper — start your Spanish passport photo.
