Finland passport photo requirements: the 36×47 mm format
Finnish passport photos are 36×47 mm, not 35×45. The values we use, where to apply, what to check with the police, and how to take the photo at home.
What Poliisi actually checks
Finnish biometric passport photos follow the spec at poliisi.fi. Finland uses a slightly larger photo than most of Europe: 36 × 47 mm, not 35 × 45. We have not yet checked the rest of the Finnish spec against the official source, so treat the other values below as the ones we use. Live spec on our Finland passport photo page.
The numbers we use
- Print size: 36 × 47 mm. 1 mm wider and 2 mm taller than 35 × 45.
- Face height: 32-36 mm chin to crown.
- Resolution: our Finnish file is 300 DPI.
- Background: light grey, uniform.
- Glasses: take them off to be safe.
