Italy passport photo requirements 2026: 35×45 mm on white

What Italian authorities check
Italian biometric passport and ID photos follow the Polizia di Stato spec published at poliziadistato.it. The print is 35 × 45 mm, the same format as most of Europe, on a white background. Live spec on our Italy passport photo page.
The numbers
- Print size: 35 × 45 mm. The standard European format.
- Face: 70-80% of the photo, which we apply as 32-36 mm chin to crown.
- Resolution: our Italian file is 300 DPI.
- Background: white, uniform, no shadows.
- Maximum age: 6 months.
- Glasses allowed if the lenses are clear (not tinted), the eyes are clearly visible and there is no flash glare on the lenses.
- Mouth closed, neutral expression, both eyes visible.
